Invitation Etiquette
The wedding invitation is often the first ‘encounter’ guests will have with a wedding, so as well as sharing vital information, take the opportunity to set the tone and scene for the big day to come. Following are some simple tips to avoid unwelcome wedding bloopers:
- If you have guests traveling from out of town, it’s a good idea to send ‘Save The Date’ messages at least 4 months prior to the wedding date
- So as not to appear too greedy, keep gift requests separate from the invitation proper.
- Feel free to include a map on the invite itself, provided it doesn’t make the invite look sloppy.
- To keep embarrassing relatives in check, include a dress code on the invitation.
- Aim to have RSVP’s in at least 2 weeks before the big day (and possibly earlier, depending on catering and venue). Feel free to call any outstanding responses at this stage to confirm.

Happy Hens
So your friend/sister/mother is getting married, and you want the night to be special – with or without the naughty stuff. Here are some handy hints to ensure a successful and memorable night.
- Let the Hen set the scene – figure out the type of get-together that will best suit the bride-to-be. It’s important that she has fun, and feels comfortable too.
- Decide on a theme. Possible suggestions include:
- Outdoor champagne breakfast
- Themed dinner party (eighties, exotic, fondue)
- Booze Cruise (with or without entertainment)
- Wine tasting
- Golf lessons, surf camp, sky diving
- Pampering sessions at a day spa
- Ensure guests are well-fed and hydrated, especially if you’re in for a hot day or long night. And an armoury of favourite tunes always helps get the support crew in a festive mood.
- Games are always a good way to break the ice. Whether it’s Truth Or Dare, guessing what handbag contents belong to who, a naughty treasure hunt, or the bashing of a pinjata, be ready to launch into games if required.
- Why not take along an autograph book to source comments and signatures, and a disposable camera to capture hilarious moments throughout the night.
