Princess/Fairy Theme Party - Kids

Being a princess for a day is every little girls dream, and what better way to celebrate turning a year older than hosting a Fairy Princess Party in true royal style.

A princess party calls for grandeur, elegance and possibly a few temper tantrums, so be prepared to have all bases covered. Decide where your party will take place. Backyards can prove a mystical fairy land for your princesses; however, you will need to consider the time of year, weather conditions and possibly have a wet weather plan in place. Fairly lights and colourful lanterns can create a dreamy atmosphere transporting your guests into a magical kingdom. Butterflies and ivy can be used to decorate and border doorways, window, tables and other outdoor structures. Party chairs can be covered with soft satin fabrics and pink ribbons or bows to create thrones for your guests.

Clever Costuming

Invite guests to wear their fanciest fairy princess dresses. Create a chest filed with fairy wings, tiaras, wands, gloves and costume jewelry so guests can accessorise throughout the day.

Menu Munchies

Where would a princess party be without fizzy pink lemonade, fairy bread, marshmallows and crumbly cookie wands. Dainty avocado, cream cheese and ham finger sandwiches could be served with cheese and crackers. Finish this royal menu off with a magical toadstool cake, princess castle cake or flavoursome fairy cupcakes.

Gratifying Games

Pick the princess! Read a quote from a fairy tale. The children need to decide which princess said that quote. Another fun game is to use newspaper, toilet paper and scrap bits of fabric to create the best princess outfit. Children work in teams to dress someone up as a princess using only the materials provided. Princesses can then parade around and the birthday girl can decide a winner.

Fancy a Favour?

If you don’t like the idea of giving lollies as favours then here are a few suggestions that will keep your princesses pleased. Butterfly hairclips, glittery headbands and striking stickers make great party favours and fit perfectly into little bags. Princess story books such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty can also be given as party favours or used as prizes.

Party Pointers

And what about Prince Charming? If you’re hosting a princess party where boys will also be invited ensure that they are catered for in your party games, favours and dress requirements. Some costume ideas for boys attending a fairy princess party could include a Prince, King, Jester, or Kings Guard.
