Rug up with a Winter Picnic

Rug up with a Winter Picnic

There’s nothing more refreshing than spending a glorious winter day outdoors. Without the humidity and blistering sunshine of summer, winter picnics can be even more fun.

  • We love winter picnics because you can play games without the excessive sweating, and you get to snuggle up next to someone you really like to keep warm. Staying inside promotes the spread of cold and flu, whereas a good dose of fresh air is great for the body, mind and soul. So what’s keeping you indoors? Here are some simple things to consider when planning your winter picnic:
    • Take a terrific thermos – Great for coffee and tea, or transporting yummy Winter foods like soup and stews
    • A warm blanket – How else are you going to snuggle up next to that special someone? Throwing in a couple of extra blankets is always wise to make sure you all keep warm.
    • Waterproof Seating – Either a picnic blanket with waterproof backing or some chairs – even if it hasn’t rained grass can get pretty damp during winter and surfaces quite cold.
    • A portable grill or BBQ – The perfect Winter picnic companion, so if you don’t have your own, choose a park that supplies BBQ facilities – great to heat up your skewers or snags.
    • Get physical – Take your cricket set, soccer or volley ball and get active – there’s no reason not to get the blood pumping to beat the winter chill. Kids love taking their bikes out and many parks have safe tracks for them to let loose on.
    • Sun Sense – The sun’s rays can still be incredibly powerful so make sure you still cover up during stints in the sun. Make sure the kids are well covered and throw in some extra lip balm for those windy days!
  • Need a location? If you’re stuck for a great spot to have a picnic, why not visit your local Council website or the National Parks website in your state?
