Birthday Cakes For Boys

Birthday Cakes For Boys

The birthday cake is an important part of any boy's birthday party, with the cutting of the cake often serving as the conclusion to a spirited and fun-filled day.

Little boys are visual creatures, and easily impressed with some simple tricks that ensure the cake-making process doesn't need to be an overly stressful one.

If your boy's party has adopted a specific theme, be sure to integrate this into the cake, for a sense of consistency and continued excitement.

Some popular themes, and corresponding cake ideas include:

Racing cars (cars, racing tracks, chequered flags)
Trains (Thomas the tank engine, Chuggington - or 'trains' in general)
Action heroes (Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Sporticus) - cakes can take the form of the heroes themselves, props or symbols
Outer Space (aliens, rockets, planets and stars)
Monsters (these can take on many forms - with excellent creative license!)
Dinosaurs (simple cartoon-shaped dinosaurs, eggs etc)
Animals (In The Jungle, Farmyard, Zoo - some easier animals include beetles, snakes or cartoon-shaped pigs etc)
Dungeons and dragons (dragons, swords)
Favourite licensed properties, such as The Wiggles, Winnie the Pooh, Bob The Builder, In The Night Garden, Teletubbies, Dora The Explorer etc

Bring It To Life
Cake making doesn't need to be complicated - cake shape, icing decorations and accessories or figurines can bring a cake to life, and add those finishing touches.

Stick To A Theme
A cake can take on many forms, and still be 'in theme', so use your imagination. If your theme is Super Heroes for instance, you could ice or decorate a simple round cake to resemble a spider web, and place a Spiderman figurine in the middle - or you could cut a sponge to resemble the shape of the Superman or Batman symbol, and ice or decorate accordingly.

Similarly, if your birthday boy has chosen a racing car theme and you have time and some cake-making experience on your hands, why not attempt to create his favourite racing car? Alternatively, create a simple chequered racing flag by icing a bought sponge, and place some colourful toy cars around the cake for effect.

Keep It Simple
It is advised to keep cake objects and shapes on the simpler side of your abilities, using colourful icing and decorations for effect. If in doubt, do a practice run in advance, and feel free to make use of small figurines and stickers etc to tell the full story. Whatever the theme, the options are endless, and the result will be sure to impress little boys on the day.
